The waterfront encompasses those areas proximate to the Potomac River, Anacostia River, and Washington Channel. The waterfront rules regulate those areas.

Waterfront regulations are intended to provide for:

  • Physical and visual public accessibility to and along the waterfront;
  • Protection of natural resources along the waterfront;
  • Open space along the waterfront; and
  • Use restrictions in the 100 year flood plain

These provisions apply to all properties with frontage on the Anacostia or Potomac Rivers.
